What We Do Consensus puts the public in public policy. We provide a neutral space, research and processes that give citizens a voice in policies that affect their lives. Consensus also provides civic engagement and public policy services to clients in metro Kansas City and elsewhere in the U.S. Through its work, Consensus fosters innovation in public policy, improves the quality of decision making, and strengthens our democracy. Consensus is a regional organization with a growing national profile. Its KC Forums project has worked closely with MacNeil/Lehrer Productions’ By the People day of deliberation and with the Kettering Foundation. A recent study on the structure and funding of the region’s libraries has been covered in three national magazines and is on the recommended reading lists of two national organizations. We recently completed a ten-month study for public libraries in the area of Davenport, Iowa, which is viewed as a model for improving libraries statewide, as well as a five-year plan conducted for the Washington State Library.
